how much would you charge to make the cover and the booklet of a band?
Depends really. It’s like licensing a photo out for anything.
First, I would find out a bit more about the band or record company producing it. I would find out how many albums are anticipated being made, whether or not they want exclusive rights to the photo, if they want to use the photo for advertising, if they wanted to use the photo for merchandising, and then I’d come up with a figure I’m comfortable from there.
If the band wants exclusive rights to the photos I would charge more because I wouldn’t be able to use the photo again except for my portfolio unless you put a time limit on it, as in you won’t use the photo again for anything for such in such amount of days, months, years, whatever.
I’d probably opt out of merchandising unless they paid a large figure because they would be making a heck of a lot of money off the sale of your photo on t-shirt, posters, etc.
So, it all really depends on what you are comfortable with.
And if it was me, once all the terms are understood I would go to a lawyer and have them draw up a contract. You don’t want to screw yourself over a contract. Then you can factor in the cost of the contract into the price.
I realize this is kind of vague but there really isn’t a set list of prices for this sort of thing.
